How does RetroTool work?

RetroTool is a simple and flexible tool for online collaboration, especially retrospectives! You create a retrospective, add columns you need (you can also use our templates) and share the link with your colleagues, so they can join. Afterwards each of you create their own cards in Private Sections (so you avoid biases) and when everyone is ready you publish them by either dragging your cards and dropping in a column or using the "Publish all" button in the top left corner of each Private Section.

What is your pricing?

RetroTool is free and we will always maintain a free, anonymous version you can use to do retrospectives. There is an option to register and get more, personalized features too. We also have a premium tier which lets you get the most of the tool. You can learn more on our Plans page.

Question 3

How do I share the retrospective?

The easiest way to invite your team is to share a link to the retrospective with them. 📬 You can copy it from the browser's address bar or you can use the Share button at the top of the app 💪

How do I create cards?

Just type in what you want to say in a blank card inside your Private Section and press Enter! ✍️ When the time is right you should drag your cards and drop it in the public part so others can see it. You can also use "Publish all" option in the top left corner of each Private Section 💪

How do I group/cluster cards?

You can group cards by dragging a card you want to group over another, hold it for a split second (you will see that the card below grows larger) and then drop it 😊 This will create a group you can instantly rename so it better reflects what this group is about 💪 To open the group, move your mouse over it and click the "X cards in group" button that will appear.

How do I vote on cards?

Each card has a small plus and minus signs: when you click them you either add or subtract a point. That's how you can put your vote on a card. 💪 Cards that you voted on will have a small, green underline: it means you added or subtracted points there. 👍

Why retro participants have the same card color?

Accepted Answer

The card colors are, unfortunately, limited to 7 as this is the number of colors that humans easily distinguish from each other (think of how many colors a rainbow has 😉). We try to give all participants different ones, but if there are more than 7 people or when they use multiple browsers (anonymous people also get a color of their own) we start to re-use them. You can always ask someone from your team to use "Change default card color" from Options to set a different color.

How do I create 4th column?

We don't have any limits on how many columns you can create. To add fourth one simply scroll to the right and click "Add a new column" button there. 💪 To add more just do it again. We show up to 4 columns at most (on really wide screens), but you can also use "Single Column View" available in Options (top right corner) to show only one column in the view for every participant. 👍

Do you have any limits (participants, cards, columns or action points)?

No, we don’t - we believe nobody should be limited to how many users can participate in a retrospective or how many cards they can create. Just share what you need and work on improving your team, don't worry about the tool you use!

Can I create a retrospective and use it later?

Accepted Answer

Yes, of course! Retrospectives are stored for at a year after creation, so you can even prepare a set of rooms and use them later.

How long is a retrospective available after creation?

Accepted Answer

Retrospectives are stored for at least a year after creation, but you can delete it sooner using "Remove retrospective" option you can find in Options. These are removed immediately and disappear from our backups after 7 days.

I found a bug - how do I report it?
